why your writing sucks

Yesterday evening, I was scrolling on my timeline to find some new post-ideas.

*stops scrolling*

‘Wow, who told this guy to write like that?’

Seriously, it was just painful to read.

And no… I don’t say that I’m the best writer who always writes perfectly.

But this type.

Of writing looks.

Absolutely.

Horrible.

And yeah… short sentences are important, depending on who’s reading your emails.

But most importantly, your sentences should be easy to read.

> Use simple words

> Avoid complex phrases

> And create a flow in your writing

As Gary Provost would say… Write Music.

And by the way, the book ‘100 Ways to Improve Your Writing’ is a gem for everyone who writes to pay the bills.

Seriously… Gary did a great job writing this book.

Anyway.

Here are 4 actionable steps that you can do to improve your writing… TODAY.

#1 Read Books

If you want to write good, you first have to know what ‘good’ writing is.

The best way to do so ?

Simple. It’s reading.

Just look at how the pro’s did it.

You can read

  • books

  • emails

  • ads

  • newspapers

Okay, I think you get what I mean…

#2 Practice

Well… Newsflash:

If you want to get really good at something, you HAVE to put in the practice.

Football, basketball, writing, and YES… even flipping burgers at McDonald’s.

How you can do that ?

Writing writing writing

No matter what it is… Just write daily.

And I really mean EVERY SINGLE day.

No excuses.

#3 Read it out loud

This one is obvious, but super underrated.

Do you know the situation, when something in your head sounded way cooler than it did in real life ?

… it’s basically the same thing here.

So you better avoid that awkward feeling by simply reading it out loud.

#4 Sentence length

Super important:

Write in a way, that keeps people’s attention.

As we all know… 90% of people have a fcked up attention span.

Means the worst thing you can do is to write boring.

Never do that.

Sometimes, you have to use short words.

But longer ones are important too.

So just try to not be repetitive because it only causes your reader to click away.

And that’s it about writing.

BUT

*Drum Roll please*

We still have to cover the daily bible verse.

Let’s read it together:

'Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.'

Psalms 23:4

Don’t forget to pray before going to sleep.

See ya tomorrow.
